Pinned: Leukemia is a hard best friend
I was officially diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on Friday February 17th at 11:30am. I didn't understand much about the disease, especially everything that I needed to do to get rid of it.
At this point I was living in Orlando, Florida with a plan to move to New York with my boyfriend, Henry once I graduated in May. This plan was put on halt when my Oncologist in Florida suggested I begin treatment within the next few weeks.
So, with the help of some AMAZING friends, I packed up everything in Florida and moved home to New Jersey a fast as possible.
As of March 16th at 7:30pm, I have been admitted into the hospital for treatment for my Leukemia.
So bare with me... there is so much more to type about this hole processes and I'm sure it'll be in crazy chunks so PAY ATTENTION... or try
So the very next day after my flight to PHL I had to go straight to see the Oncologist. I remember how weird this all felt. The week before, I was planning summer cruises and my graduation. Now I had no idea if that was going to happen.
This first week home was full of so much information that I don't think I'd ever have to think about. I had figure out now if I wanted to have children in the future. My chemo treatments and my possible bone marrow transplant could make me completely infertile. This included me having to give myself needles every night and every morning! I decided to go through with certain fertility preservation treatments to preserve my eggs.
Thankfully I am fully staffed with friends who aren't nearly as squeamish as I am. That process was a little hard because I had a very small window in which I needed to retrieve the eggs, so I was at the doctors office everyday giving blood and getting the most very uncomfortable ultra sounds down-under. These shots also caused me to feel very moody, bloated, and tired. Which really stunk on top of the already constant fatigue I'd felt for a few weeks.
My GREAT friend Leuk was attacking and taking over most of my blood cells. This means that if I was to come across with a person that had any viral bacteria infection- I would most likely get it. This also had to do with oxygen not moving fast enough in my body and left me very low on energy.
